The different types of Computer systems and what they do.
Desktop PC
A desktop PC is a computer that is designed to just it in one place and not to be portal. The advantages of having a desktop computer is that they offer more power and storage compared to something like a laptop. Another advantage to having a desktop PC is that when the computer started to get old and slow you can easily open up the case and upgrade any of the components that are causing the PC to slow down, compared to a laptop where the only thing in a laptop you are upgrade is the hard drive and the ram. |
Laptop / Notebook
A laptop is a computer that you can easily pack in your bag and take it with you when you need to travel. The reason laptops are so portable is because everything like the screen, keyboard and mouse is all of the internal components to make it work are packed into the one unit that can even be powered with a internal battery. Most modern day laptops weigh just a bit less than a large hard cover book. Laptop are mostly used by people that have to travel to different places for work for example a mobile DJ uses a laptop for there music because its easier than taking a massive box of cds around with them. |
Netbook
A netbook is a computer that is even more portable your average laptop. They are also much cheaper than today's laptops. But the one problem with Netbooks is that they lack in power because they only have a small CPU and not very much ram installed and because the battery is smaller the whole computer is under powered. The only thing you can use this type of computer for is word documents and internet browsing because they don't have very much graphics power so you can use them for media work like video editing and Photoshop. |
Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) / Smart Phone
A PDA is very simular to a mobile phone that can fit in your pocket instead its a computer. The PDA have little qwerty keyboards on they and have a stylus for the touch screen so you can easily navigate your way around its menu and all its features. On the PDA and smartphones you can run a wide range of software including word documents and spreadsheets. You can also connect to your WiFi network for internet browsing. The PDA is like a smart phone, well the diffrence is that smartphones are more used more for gaming and making phone calls and texting and the operating system it runs on is Blackberry, Android, Windows 8 or ios compared to a PDA that is more for business use and runs a operating system like windows XP. |
Servers
A serer is a computer that have been optimized to provide a service to other people over a network. Servers have powerful processors, lots of ram and a lot of hard drive space. For example when you go onto Facebook or Google or any website, it is running of a server witch holds all the information of people that have been onto that website or signed up for it. Servers are also used for gaming when people go onto a game and then they go onto multiplier and then are put into a game with other people it is running through a server so you can connect. |
